Bagsy pop-up - at Duston Village Bakery!
Yay!!! I have a pop-up shop outside Duston Village Bakery on Saturday 20th July! I haven't had a stall for getting on for two years (what with moving shenanigins etc etc) and can't wait to see everyone!!!
There will be LOTS of bargains - bags, purses, tees, sweatshirts and of course glazed goodies. PLUS: Yummy baked goods and cafe at the Bakery! Win, win :) Details here 15th July 2024 |
S l o w l y does it...
It took an AGE to get my emails sorted. Several weeks of huffing and puffing and we got there in the end. Meanwhile... The Cottage is taking all our time and effort - we are slowly chipping away at it (not literally!) I am painting your ceramic orders in the gloriously happy muddle we are currently living in (eight weeks and still no running hot water)!

Pottery painting delight!
I'm excited to have joined the team at 'Cre8Towcester'! It's a lovely, friendly, pottery painting studio in the heart of Towcester. The owners Liz and Heather are very kindly letting me add my goodies to their kiln (ironically known as 'Idle' Eric) while Norbert is still in storage. I'm there a couple of days a week - and I absolutely love it! Be great to see you!

Bridal clutches and wedding ring boxes made here!
Fabulous family news! Our youngest daughter Lizzie gets married this summer, and our eldest daughter Tilly graduated with a 1st class Psychology Masters Degree a couple of weeks ago - and is expecting her first baby (our first grandchild) in about a week! We are so proud - and so excited!!!
We still haven't exchanged on our new house. Hopefully next week. Still clinging onto the dream. 4th February 2024 |
Happy New Year!
Starting the new year in the possible way parkrunning with my beautiful friends! We car-shared the trip to Oxford University Parks as our local parkruns were flooded. What a special morning - sunny and calm - and a lovely, gentle run with the best buddies. Hope you're having a grand start to the New Year! We hope to move into our new house any time soon (boy, it's dragging on) the Guinness is on ice for when we get the keys :)

It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas!

The Underdog Auction
I'm supporting The Underdog again this year by donating a personalised Christmas tree bauble to the winning bidder on Instagram. The Underdog are a unique charity that aims to positively impact one million children and dogs by 2025. They work on global projects to encourage kindness, empathy, resilience and confidence. Creating compassion and joy - one dog, one child at a time! Here's the link to the auction site - https://www.instagram.com/underdogauction/ there's lots of lovely goodies to be tempted by!

Who fancies a job swap?! Andy Collins from BBC Three Counties Radio tried his hand at painting pet portraits in his Tuesday 'Job Swap' feature, while I had a go at his show biz stuff (I was absolutely hopeless!) Tune in to BBC Sounds (move the dial to 2:5hrs in) to find out who was hired - and who was fired!

Book pot workshop
We had a small but perfectly formed ceramic painting workshop in Towcester's Vitreus Art just before we moved house last month. Here are my ladies hard at work - and the results - didn't the pots turn out well!
The moving house bit is taking longer than we expected. Nothing is easy, is it? We have moved out but are yet to move in. You'll hear the champagne corks popping when we get the keys :) 20th August 2023 |
Full steam ahead!

Bags of fun!
Ride the night
I was a Ride Angel for the ladies-only 'Ride the Night 2023' event last Saturday-into-Sunday. I rode the event with a group of girlfriends last year and wanted to help out this time round. I really enjoyed riding in the Ride Angel team amongst the thousands ladies raising funds for 'Women v Cancer'. Ride Angels are there to offer help (easy-to-fix breakdowns) and support (chatting) along route. I set of with my bestest Ride Angel buddy Steph at 10:15pm, we finished at 2:15am and got home at 5:30am. I think I need about a week's worth of beauty sleep to catch up on!!!
Just heard that £500,000 was raised for 'Women v Cancer'. Absolutely bloody brilliant. 7th May 2023 |
Books turned into bags!
Seven lovely ladies made seven bloomin' fabulous book handbags in my book handbag workshop at 'The Nimble Thimble' on Saturday. It was a pleasure to share my bookbag-making secrets - and such a joy to see the books the ladies brought in turned into the most beautiful, useable bags!
Let's do it again!!! Next workshop on 10th June 'The Nimble Thimble' in Buckingham. Book your place by calling Sara on 01280 822236 or online on their new website 18th April 2023 |

A custom painted water bowl (by me) for Vespa and Bodhi - on a fantastic custom built stand (not by me!) These handsome doggos are Basenjis, a very old dog breed originally from Congo and Egypt and are the small dogs you see on the wall paintings in ancient Egypt. Hunting hounds, very fast. And they’re barkless! Thank you so much for the photo, Molly.
If you'd love to paint your own ceramic pet bowl and framed ceramic tile - then my 'Pet Parade' ceramic painting workshop at Vitreus Art on Sunday 12th March is the place to be. More details on my 'About' page :) 21st February 2023 |
Just the job for crafters!...

It's all a happening in Buckingham's 'The Nimble Thimble' with refreshments and materials provided. I'll glaze your mugs and fire them in Norbert - and they'll be ready for collection from 'The Nimble Thimble' soon after. 1-3:30pm Saturday 28th January. £35

Ooops!
Here's something different!
Need more coffee!
**Ooof!** Bag End is positively exploding with your lovely orders! Thank you so, so much! Orders are up 59% on last year which is terrific, but also a wee bit **eek!** Please do keep your orders **cha chinging** in - but just to let you know that my turnaround time is now 2-3 weeks, and that the Royal Mail strikes will delay goodies arriving. You know I’ll do my utmost, but I jus' won’t be able to guarantee delivery in time for Christmas from now on. It’s only me sewing, gluing, painting, glazing, emailing, wrapping, posting… I did try to recruit Mr Bagsy, but turns out sewing isn’t his strong point!

Middle Row Market
Didn't we have a luverly time!
Towersey Festival was so friendly - with wonderful music wafting into the local traders marquee (we were tapping our toes behind our stalls!) - and beautiful weather for everyone. We were kept busy all weekend - and had such lovely feedback and LOTS of sales despite the woefully flaky wi-fi (thank you for getting cashback at the bar!) My eldest daughter Tilly and best friend Cynthia helped out on the Saturday - thank you, my lovelies xx

Fabulous Furbulosa!
Fabulosa asked me if I'd like to paint a bowl for their new range of pet disinfectants and I jumped at the chance!
Approved by Pips, Fabulosa's brand new concentrated disinfectant is perfect for pet lovers all over (and smells incredible). You can shop the range in Poundland - but the bowl is a one-off for Pips at Fabulosa HQ ;) Hope you got some Scooby Snacks, Pips - terrific modelling! 22nd August 2022 |

Beery good time!
Reading's Indie Market was small and perfectly formed with some of the friendliest creatives I've ever traded alongside. We had happy customers all day in Double-Barrelled's handsome brewery venue :)
I really enjoyed being at this market and hope I'd love to be invited to trade here again! 8th August 2022 |
Feelin' festival-y!
I'm SUPER-DUPER excited to be at Towersey Festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend! It's not far from Bag End on the beautiful Claydon Estate so I'm delighted to have a stall reserved in the 'local maker' corner of the festival craft market. There's endless entertainment and workshops - truly something for everyone at this popular, friendly festival in its 58th year!

Riding the Night
We set off to 'Ride the Night' from Windsor to London and back again at 9:30pm and finished at 4:30am! There was a carnival atmosphere but it was a challenge and adventure to raise funds for Women's cancer research along with 2,000 other ladies on our 'blinged-up' bikes. Our ride was originally meant to take place two years ago, but we all know what happened to put the brakes on it going ahead back then. It was tough, and fun and rather fabulous! I'm VERY tired now, I won't lie... we'd love to do it again next year, though 😂🚴🚴🚴

Meet the Maker
Mother's Day
My mum was the most inspirational, enterprising, confident, creative, caring, generous woman. She was fun-loving and gregarious - and crazy in a wonderful way - and sometimes in an acutely 'face in hands, toe-curling' embarrassing way. She was employed as a groom for my aunt's pony when she was a young teenager - all teeth and long thick auburn plaits. That's how she met my dad and they stayed together all their lives - married at 21 - doesn't that seem so young?! I painted this little jug with daffodils and periwinkles and purple heart's-ease with 'mum xxx' on the base. If you'd like one to celebrate your mum on Mother's Day - or any day - with her favourite flowers and a little snippet of poem or family saying - you know where to come xxx

If you were a book... |
What silly things go round in your head at night? I was dreaming up Valentine's card ideas - topical, maybe, but I'd much rather have gotten a good night's kip! Card ideas kept spinning round and round in my head - and they were all truly pants in the cold light of morning... but, is there something in this one? **Rubs chin thoughtfully and looks at it through narrowed eyes** Happy Valentine's, Galentine's and Palentine's everyone! PS. please tell me I'm bonkers or if I could be onto something! 😂

We have a Wordery winner!
Hello 2022!
**Sings** "Baby, it's cold in here!"
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
It's the strange 'in between' time of an old year when we can slow down for a few days before taking a deep breath and leaping into the new one. It's dark and drizzly out there today and the dogs are damply snoring into their baskets (how can light drizzle get us all so wet on a dog walk?!) I'm listening to real-life ghost stories on BBC Sounds and I'm half-way round painting classic books onto a big mug for a customer. I've painted lots of ceramic pet baubles again this year - I do love doing these. It's been another great year in my shop - thank you so much for buying from my shop and showing an interest in my funny ol' world! In a happy frame of mind I've just put a little sale on in my Etsy shop - 10% off new makes and 20% off goodies already made. Jus' for a short while. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! XXX

2020
2020 was a year, wasn't it. It's almost time to shut the door on it and to open a new one. Let's hope it's going to open up a year that's bright and full of promise; we've never needed it so much.
I was delivering parcels and working my shop until I fell ill in the summer and couldn't physically do the work - I found it hard to walk and lost my balance. Gabapentin has made things so much better, and I'm now running my shop and helping out with parcels as and when. This has been a busy year for my shop, my busiest year to date and I'm planning more for 2021. Thank you so much for all your interest, support and for buying from my shop - you're the best - and I have the best job in the world :) 28th December 2020 |

Happy post on its way!
Before and after :)
Phew, it's been a busy week. I feel as though I've been spinning around getting dizzy sending out orders (loads off again yesterday) and making up orders (thank you, thank you!) as well as squeezing in fun things for me - I've been out on my bike *huge grin!* and open water swimming - my simple joy. I'm sat in a totally disorganised Bag End surrounded by fallout from yesterday's makes and packaging (damn you, shredded paper you get everywhere!) I'm still in my unicorn dressing gown with a coffee - in a beautifully hand painted mug - at hand. Now... to start a tidy up mission!

You can meet the most wonderful people online.
'Fine Preservers Books' bring an almost daily sprinkling of joy with beautifully curated Instagram posts of vintage books and inquisitive kitties. What's not to love? Follow Pippa (one of the new kittens in the bookshop) finding her feet amongst the books, navigating the library ladders and interacting with the grown-up cats. She's an Instagram natural! Here she is (adorable) with the books I painted on a mug for Maureen the bookshop owner. Read the whole story - and fall in love with the place here - oh - and you can and browse their books on Etsy. Highly recommended. 15th August 2020 |

Sewing in the sunshine
Sharing a (very tidy!) shot of my sunny sewing room with the doors thrown open and Hollie Dog walking through, just as I click. Just to let you know I'm sewing away, fulfilling orders and consolidating a trip to the Post Office. If you want to buy something from my shop to send directly to someone else with a message - I can do that :) We're healthy and happy in our lockdown while Billy is out delivering parcels (staying away from customers) and driving the Bagsymobile on ever-quieter roads. Sending virtual hugs - stay safe xxx

Reader, she married him!
Tilly, our eldest daughter and Simon tied the knot! Tilly wanted a book clutch (that's my girl) and chose 'Love, Stargirl' by Jerry Spinelli. Behind the scenes and unbeknownst to any of us, Simon had been conversing with Jerry Spinelli himself and the author sent over 'Stargirl' related goodies including temporary 'Stargirl' tattoos, that Simon presented on the morning of the wedding. They all wore the tattoos, of course. It was a truly happy, happy day!
“Live today. Not yesterday. Not tomorrow. Just today. Inhabit your moments. Don’t rent them out to tomorrow. Do you know what you’re doing when you spend a moment wondering how things are going to turn out with Perry? You’re cheating yourself out of today. Today is calling to you, trying to get your attention, but you’re stuck on tomorrow, and today trickles away like water down a drain. You wake up the next morning and that today you wasted is gone forever. It’s now yesterday. Some of those moments may have had wonderful things in store for you, but now you’ll never know.” ― Jerry Spinelli, Love, Stargirl 15th September 2018 |

Probably?! Did it :)
The London Marathon was epic, emotional and very bloody hard! Too hot for words (how can there be no shade in London?) and loud (so, so loud!) The support was incredible and seeing my eldest daughter and her fiance with their fab sign ('probably do it?' I'll show them!) at mile 11, and getting a hug from Steph at mile 25 spurred me on... 26.2 miles is a looong way!
First marathon done! Mum would've loved it. 23rd April 2018 |

London Marathon!!!
With less than three weeks to go, I am definitely not ready for a marathon - a sewing marathon, maybe - but not a running one. I don't even like running that much. But that's what I'll be doing at the London Marathon, raising funds for Bowel cancer and MS research. Jus' sharing that with you so you can donate if you feel inclined (thank you, thank you) - or so you can cheer at the telly on April 22nd. Please holler so I can hear you! I'll be the one not in a hot dog outfit, puffing and cursing at the back. Here's me putting in 13.1miles on Good Friday, with my littlest :)
